A reader reminded me about some Omaha filming locations for The Assassination of Richard Nixon. I remember when they were in town filming. I am a huge Madonna fan, so at the time, Sean Penn was the closest I could get to her presence. (That all would change soon!) I did watch Sean shoot one scene, but more on that later.
Below are a couple of Omaha filming locations. I seem to remember Sean recommended Omaha as he had filmed The Indian Runner a decade earlier.
This is the top of one of the garages at Eppley Airfield in Omaha. It’s undergoing an extensive renovation, so not sure how much of this is still there, but likely is.

This building is at 1502 Jackson Street in Omaha. I recognized this immediately as it was just a few doors down from the club, Joy, that I used to frequent in my younger days!

This is the quick scene I watched them shoot one night. It is across from 642 South 14th Street in Omaha. (I believe the bar he was looking into was around the block at 1403 Jackson Street, but it has been heavily renovated since filming.) I didn’t take any photos at the time — remember kids, cell phone cameras were NOT what they are now! But in this streetview shot, you can match up the background buildings pretty easily.

I was most curious about the tire shop location. It took me a while, but I finally tracked it down to the corner of Turk and Larkin Streets in San Francisco. I found it too late, however, as it seems like it was demolished a few years ago. Below are some older google streetview shots for reference.

I did watch a Madonna concert next to Sean Penn and Amy Schumer one night… :)
