Based on the true story of Steven Staner, I Know My First Name Is Steven was first broadcast on May 22 and 23, 1989. I’ve been working on these locations for a while but never got around to publishing them.
The Staner house is located at 5148 Stratford Road in Highland Park, California.
One of my driveby shots, but this was the auto parts store, located at 5030 York Boulevard, just a couple blocks from the house.
This is Dorris Place Elementary School, seen in many productions including Freaky Friday, Cooties, Robocop, and Child’s Play 2.
Up the street from the school is this corner at Dorris Place and Blake Avenue.

A few blocks from the school is his friend’s house at 2668 Queen Street. This house has undergone major renovation so I included an old Google Streetview shot at the end for reference.
This store is best known for it’s use in The Last Starfighter, and has undergone a lot of changes since filming. It is located at 9411 Soledad Canyon Road in Canyon Country, California.
Another driveby shot; this was the auto dealer at 12341 Branford Street in Sun Valley.
Another driveby! This motel is at 4900 Sepulveda Boulevard in Culver City.
This scene was shot in front of 5056 and 5058 N Eagle Rock Boulevard.

This is Verdugo Hills High School at 10625 Plainview Avenue in Tujunga, California.
Just up the street from the school is this corner at Summitrose Avenue and Plainview Avenue.
This was shot at Morningside Elementary located at 576 N Maclay Avenue in San Fernando. This is most recognizable from appearing in the original Carrie (1976).
This is right next to the school and the corner of Maclay Avenue and 5th Street.
The next abduction scene is nearby in front of 618 N Brand Boulevard.
It was a busy day, so another driveby shot for the gas station for now, located at 5058 York Boulevard.
This was shot at the (now) Los Angeles Police Museum, at 6045 York Boulevard.

This is Van Nuys High School at 6535 Cedros Avenue in Van Nuys. Better known for its appearances in Fast Times at Ridgemeont High, Christine, and Sleepwalkers.
This was shot at the Old Orange County Courthouse, located at 211 W Santa Ana Boulevard in Santa Ana. It is best known for its appearances in Legally Blonde and American Horror Story: Asylum.
