Today marks the anniversary for THE WAR OF THE WORLDS, released August 26, 1953. Below are a few of the shooting locations used in the film.
According to websites, the theatre was located at 201 East 6th Street in Corona, California. I took spots at that location, but didn’t seem quite right. EDIT: According to readers, the actual scene was filmed on the backlot.
The church seen down the street is located at 722 South Main Street in Corona, California.
This section of downtown Corona is long gone, but found a photo with a similar angle, photo credit: Corona History Association, a great page for the history of the town.
The Los Angeles Courthouse in Downtown Los Angeles.
The Pacific Institute is actually an office building at Paramount Studios.
The hospital is now the USC Medical Center located at 1200 North State Street in Los Angeles.
Most of the empty street scenes were shot at the corner of West 8th Street and South Hill Street in Downtown Los Angeles.
The first shots of the church is at 175 North Lake Avenue in Pasadena, California.
They then switch to the a church at 310 South Van Ness Avenue; best known as the location in A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors.
