Final Destination (2000)

Crashing into cinemas on March 17, 2000, Final Destination breathed a new variation into the genre and eventually launching another successful franchise. The film takes place in the fictional Mt. Abraham, New York, but the majority of the film was shot in Vancouver, British Columbia.

The fatal Flight 180 is departing from JFK Airport, but Vancouver International Airport was used for the exteriors and a few of the terminal scenes

Later that night, Alex returns home and witnesses an eerie lightning strike near his house at 4688 Connaught Drive in Vancouver.  This area is a popular filming location and has been used in The Stepfather, Happy Gilmore, and 2002’s version of Carrie.

A memorial is held for the students at their high school. The scene takes place at the back of Kerrisdale Elementary located at 5555 Carnarvon Street in Vancouver. The front of this school was used as Springwood High in Freddy Vs. Jason.

After another premonition, Alex realizes Todd is next on death’s list. He runs by the gate at 3707 Hudson Street before arriving at Todd’s house at 1312 Balfour Avenue.

This location is just a couple blocks from the opening scene house from When A Stranger Calls Back.

The most jarring and memorable death was Terry getting hit by a bus.  The action begins at the coffee shop, located at 4840 Delta Street in Delta, British Columbia.

Terry and Carter arrive and after a short argument…

Terry steps off the curb onto Bridge Street before meeting her fate with an extremely fast bus.

Ms. Lewton’s death was shot on a set and her house was built for the production so it could be impressively exploded. The remaining survivors drive through the streets as they try to figure out who will be the next to die. The first shots I wasn’t able to visit, so they are Google streetview pictures near the corner of Cambie Street and West 2nd Avenue.

These scenes were shot on Pemberton Avenue between 1st and 16th Streets in North Vancouver.

Thinking that he is next to die, Alex isolates him in a cabin to safeguard the others. This set was also used as Betty White’s house in Lake Placid.

The finale of the film was part of the reshoot in Victoria, British Columbia   The surviving trio celebrate in Paris at Le Café Miro 81, located at 50 Bastion Square

After another premonition, Alex nearly steps in front of an oncoming bus on Langley Street.

This causes a Rube Goldberg series of events with the Miro 81 sign smashing into Carter an ensuring a lucrative future for the series.

Here is me during my visit to “France".
