Jem And The Holograms (2015)

Today marks the 10th anniversary of the film version of Jem And The Holograms. Although I was too old to be watching the original run of the animated series, I binged it earlier this year.

After that, I thought I should check out the movie version as it was somewhat notorious for being a financial flop and pulled from theaters early. Blumhouse, notorious for their lowball budgets, did this one a disservice but director John Chu did his best to work outside of the box. While not successful here, Chu went on to establish himself as a impressive filmmaker taking on the Broadway hit, Wicked.

Of course, I had to search out and visit the locations for the movie, a few which you can check out below.

The house is located at 6648 Peach Avenue in Van Nuys.

The original family house is located at 1347 Kellam Avenue in Los Angeles. This home has been seen in many productions, most noticeably in Disney’s The Strongest Man In The World, Zodiac, and Amsterdam.

And here is the often-filmed Santa Monica Pier.

This is not my photo but Google Streetview, this was shot from the Stadium Way on-ramp to the 110.

The mansion was shot at the Hummingbird Nest Ranch at 2940 Kuehner Drive in Santa Susana.

Starlight Studios was shot at the LA Center Studios.

My friend and Madonna superfan, Katrina, was lucky to be an extra in the film during the finale concert!

She was kind enough to share these photos of her experience:

My Jem doll and album!
